Pillar Aberdeen
is a small voluntary organisation based in Aberdeen. We are
a registered non-profit making charity and a company limited
by guarantee. Pillar was founded in 1978 and operates from
20 Back Wynd, Aberdeen. We support people in and around Aberdeen
who have mental health problems and mental illness. We offer
drop-in sessions 6 days a week and have a range of groups
and activities that people who use the service can attend.
We call the people who use the service members, as they are
the equivalent of shareholders in the organisation.
A Wheelchair Lift gives full access to the first floor. Access to the second
floor is stair only.
Pillar Aberdeen launches its new Outreach service to people within the Granite City , through the implementation of a new Outreach and Through Support worker. This will complement Pillar's existing service by aiming to reach individuals wanting to access this service and who are currently without support to do so.
Do any of the following apply to you?
Do you have difficulty in coming to a new place on your own for the first time?
Would you benefit from spending time in a social setting?
Are you aware of people who could benefit from such a service?
Would an Outreach worker encourage you to access Pillar?
Are you an existing member who has not been to Pillar for some time and needs assistance in getting back to the service?
Are you an existing member who would want to access mainstream opportunities in the wider community?
The Outreach and Through support worker will be able to visit you at a mutually agreeable place for a short time, to explain what happens at Pillar, help you come along to the service for a visit and explain how to become a member if you are keen.
It is the intention that the worker's involvement is short term (i.e.1-2 visits) and designed to work in conjunction with the existing Pillar staff to enable new people to get settled.
It is not expected that all individuals referred will want to join Pillar but will identify with our service as a means to obtaining short term input to assist with their recovery.
We would encourage anyone who believes this service will be of benefit to them to contact Outreach

Aberdeen Board
Pillar
has a Board made up of 8 members and 6 other interested people.
The Board has the overall responsibility for Pillar and oversees
the work of the staff through 6 weekly Board meetings, yearly
Board/staff development meetings, and annual workshops with
the members. The members on the Board provide a bridge between
the Board and the members, and there is a monthly members'
meeting where issues and suggestions can be discussed.
