Groups & Activities
What are the groups like?
Each group is different and some have a clear purpose (like the Hearing Voices Group and the Postnatal Depression Group) and some have a more informal social purpose. All groups have guidelines for members and this will be discussed with you if you are interested in a particular group.

There have also been some short term groups and activities that have taken place from time to time including Assertiveness, Confidence Building, Computing, Art and First Aid. Please contact us to find out what is currently on at the moment.
Ten-pin Bowling
Monday 1.15pm to 3pm
This takes place at Sunset Boulevard which is situated at the beach. You can either meet at Pillar or at the bowling and you can choose to play with or without bumpers. The cost is 25 pence per week per member and there are usually between 4 and 8 players.

Hearing Voices Group
The first Wednesday of each month 1pm to 3pm
This group meets on the top floor of Pillar and the atmosphere is informal and relaxed. There is a half hour settling down period before the group starts at 1.30pm. There are opportunities to discuss the kind of week you have had and to share suggestions/ideas/issues around hearing and coping with voices.

Post Natal Depression Group
Tuesday 10am to 12noon
The Pillar Post Natal Depression Support Group meets every Tuesday morning from 10am – 12 noon. A nominal service fee is charged per session. Free crèche facilities are provided on the premises. The group is open to parents who are experiencing PND. The group was established in 1996 and is facilitated by professionally trained staff.

Women’s Group
Tuesday 1pm to 3pm
The women meet on the first floor of Pillar for discussion and socializing. Many different topics are brought up including mental and physical health, complementary therapies, issues that have affected women in the last week, shopping and food and a whole host of other subjects. Speakers can be asked to come and talk to the group if required. The group also arranges various trips throughout the year.

Young People's Group
Tuesday 6.30pm to 9pm
You must be aged between 16 and 25 to attend this group. The group is held upstairs in Pillar. There is the opportunity for group members to play pool or darts, listen to music, play the Wii, read magazines or use the computer. Although the group uses Pillar as a base the aim is to get out and about and to access other resources that are available within the community. Information and other resources for young people are available on the night.

Over 55s Group
Thursday 10am to 12 noon
The over 55’s group is a warm, friendly group with a long history at Pillar. There is the opportunity to chat over a cup of tea, play pool, dominoes and take part in lots of other games and activities. First visit is free to potential members and new members are made to feel very welcome.”

Craft Group
Thursday 10am to 12noon
An open and supportive group offering encouragement to members who want to experiment with their craft skills. The craftwork range is wide and diverse, and is chosen from members' ideas.

Healthy Lifestyles
The Healthy Lifestyles programme at Pillar offers various activities to help promote healthy choices. We have various tasters of healthy foods and arrange gym trips, walks, yoga, swimming and much more.
